TANJORE PAINTING REPRESENTING THE SIXTY-THREE NAYANMARS. Polychrome pigments, gold, coloured glass and stucco in relief on wooden panel. The sixty-three
Nayanmars or devotees are depicted in boxes in the lower part of the image, performing pujas or prayers. The upper part depicts from left to right in shrines: Ganesh, the four Nalvars, Nataraja, Shivakami, and Subrahmanya. Around these chapels are the Shivaite devotees. This large-scale painting, typical of 19th-century Tanjore painting productions, presents an unusual subject.
