The original 1995 work is listed in the artist's catalogue raisonné under number 825-2. The present work, which was conceived after the 1995 work, is listed in the catalogue of Heni productions under number P17.
Tulips (P17) depicts a vase filled with tulips which the artist again treats in a blur. This work is associated with the Atlas archive work that Gerhard Richter began in the 1960s. He collected landscape and family photographs, sketches and newspaper extracts on loose sheets. "I tried to collect everything I had that was between the work of art and the trash, that was somehow important to me and a shame to throw away," he said about Atlas in his interview with Dieter Schwarz in 1999.
