Maske der Dan - Dean Gle-Maske Lot n° 975

Höhe inkl. Stand: 34,8 cm. Höhe ohne Stand: 22,5 cm. Elfenbeinküste / Liberia. Hartholz, geschnitzt mit Glanzpatina. Besonders edle und ästhetisch wertvolle Tanzmaske. Auf sekundärem Sammlungsstand. Gle-Masken können in zwei Kategorien eingeteilt werden: die des Dean Gle, die ein sanfter, friedlicher Gle ohne Geschlecht ist, deren Eigenschaften aber als weiblich gedacht werden, und die des Bu Gle, der der Kriegs-Gle ist, der nach dem Geräusch eines Gewehrschusses benannt ist und dessen Eigenschaften als männlich gedacht werden. Die Dean Gle-Maske repräsentiert eine idealisierte Version der Dan-Schönheit. Sie ist gekennzeichnet durch schmale Augen, eine ovale Form, eine glatte Stirn und einen leicht geöffneten Mund, um die Zähne freizulegen. Literatur: Vgl. Gle masks can be subdivi-ded into two categories: those of the Dean Gle, a gentle, peace-loving, sexless Gle, whose characteristics are, however, considered female and those of the Bu Gle, the Gle of war, named after the sound a firing gun makes and whose characteristics are perceived as being male.
