MASTER OF BOUCICAUT. The Adoration of the Magi. Single leaf from a book of hours on vellum, made in Paris, circa 1410. 18,8x14 cm. Provenance: Former collection of Dr. Rosy Schilling. The scene takes place outside, under a blue sky. The Virgin Mary is enthroned with the Christ child in her arms. The wise men come to bring the gifts, under the star that has guided them. The oldest of them kneels down in front of Christ to offer him the gold. Unlike the other two magi, he appears without a crown, as a sign of humility. Christ extends his arms to accept the gift. The other two magi, carrying frankincense and myrrh, observe the scene.
