Philip VI of Valois (1 April 1322 - 22 August 1350). Chair of gold (July 17, 1346). 4,73 g. The king seated on a gothic throne holding the sceptre and the hand of justice, within a polylobe flanked by small shamrocks. R/ Cross four-lobed, leaved and fleur-de-lys within a four-lobed trefoil canted by four crowns. D. 258. C. 292. L. 261. Fr. 269. Large flan. Superb. Provenance : sale Paris, Hôtel Drouot, 14 May 1962, n° 236. The golden chair represents the crowned king holding in his right hand the sceptre, symbol of the royal power, and in his left hand the hand of justice, symbol of the power granted by God to the king to judge.
