This Bouquet of flowers placed on a small table is part of a series initiated in 1920. Suzanne
Valadon varied the floral composition, the nature of the vase, the shape of the pedestal table.
Our painting is, however, distinguished from these still lifes by its narrative character. A small chair on the right, turned towards the window, retains the memory of a presence. Has a seated woman suddenly risen to run, against all convention, to meet the beloved and patiently awaited?
