46 Éros vanné. (Monologue by Maurice Donnay). 1894. Lithograph. 220 x 290 [400 x 525]. Delteil 74 (ii/iv); Wittrock 56. Printed in olive green. A very fine proof of the 1st edition without the text of the musical score (before 1910), the framing lines in the upper left uninked, on thin vellum watermarked "G. PELLET / T. LAUTREC", covered with the red monogram stamp. All margins untrimmed. Edition of 30 proofs on this paper (more than half of them stamped according to Wittrock). G. Pellet ed. 1 800 - 2 000 € Minor soiling and short broken folds, notably in the lower right corner of the folio. A tiny spot of rust to the left of the subject. Two rectangular whitish marks on the right-hand side of the reverse, visible only by transparency. Éros vanné is a monologue by Maurice Donnay that was in the repertoire of the singer Yvette Guilbert. The figure of Eros here is derived from the depiction of a love perched on crutches, which also appears in the lower left-hand corner of Dürer's engraving The Doctor's Dream (1498-1499). Here Lautrec is alluding to the dangers of venal love, represented by the two prostitutes in the background.
