38 Bartet and Mounet-Sully, in "Antigone". 1893. Lithograph. 267 x 365 [280 x 370]. Delteil 53; Wittrock 45. Printed in two tones (black and beige ochre stone). A very fine and fresh proof on cream glazed vellum, stamped with the red monogram and numbered (N° 21) in red pencil by the publisher Éd. Kleinmann. On the back, inscription in pencil: "N° 21". All margins. Rare: edition of 65 proofs (of which only a small number are stamped). Distributed by Éd. Kleinmann. 1 800 - 2 000 € Slight trace of oxidation at the opening of the passe-partout. Slight discharge of black ink (from another print) along the upper edge on the reverse. Julia Bartet (1854-1941) was an actress, admitted as a member of the Comédie-Française in 1879. She played many leading female roles. Jean-Sully Mounet, known as Mounet-Sully (1841-1916) was an actor also received as a member of the Comédie-Française in 1874. He was one of the most renowned tragedians of his time and advocated (contrary to Diderot and his Paradox on the actor), the total abandonment of the actor to the role he was playing.
