35 A redoubt at the Moulin Rouge. 1893. Lithograph. 480 x 290 [560 x 380]. Delteil 65; Wittrock 42. A very fine and fresh proof printed in black on ivory glazed vellum, covered with the red stamp of the monogram. All margins. Rare: edition of 50 proofs (more than half of them stamped). Distributed by Éd. Kleinmann. 10 000 - 12 000 € Very clear insolation at the opening of the mount. Slight discharge of the red stamp on the back, from another proof. The satire of Catholicism in vogue at the time can be seen in this plate: "[it] incorporates a slight blasphemy [...] for the image of the night cabaret in celebration is composed like an Entry of Christ into Jerusalem, the painting by Gérôme (Musée de Vesoul) which was reproduced in Le Figaro Illustré in April 1890" (Richard Thomson, "Observations on the Themes of Toulouse-Lautrec's Prints", in Wittrock, vol. 1, pp. 27-28).
