GUN MASS Hematite Diam_ 5 cm Egypt, Pedynastic period, 5th-4th millennium BC This small weapon mace is characterized by its four-lobed shape. Models of the same type were found in Susa in the early periods (Susa I, ca. 4200-3800 BC). It seems that this type of club comes directly from an Elamite protodynastic export. For a similar typology see: PETRIE, F., Prehistoric Egypt, 1974, pl. XXVI, n°65 Provenance: Paris, private collection Ex-sale by Christie's London, April 27, 1994 under n° 124 A RARE EGYPTIAN OR MESOPOTAMIAN PREDYNASTIC HEMATITE FOUR LOB-SHAPED MACE HEAD, 5TH-4TH MILLENNIUM B.C. 2 in.
