Oil/wood. The center of the picture dominates a group of oaks, in front of it ducks a small hut on a watercourse. The people in the foreground are only staffage, the real subject is nature, which is shown with great dynamism and detail. The cloudy sky takes up a large part of the picture. The composition of the picture, the strong contrasts and the tension between the still and dynamic parts of the picture, the way the sky is painted, as well as the subject suggest the circle or the succession of Jacob van Ruisdael (1628 Haarlem-1681 Amsterdam). An X-ray shows an overpainted scene from the 15th/16th century. Ri., min. F.a., frame worn, otherwise good condition for age. Netherlands, 17th century H x W approx. 42 x 52 cm, H x W ger. 56 x 66 cm
