Large figure of Buddha Shakyamuni. Yellow cast. Sri Lanka. 18th/19th c. Standing, the right hand raised in abhaya mudra, the left hanging down. The close-fitting robe, leaving the right shoulder free, falls in numerous stylized folds. On a separately cast double lotus base. H 57,5 cm Provenance Private collection, southern Germany, acquired in 1984 from Mr Stupnicki of Neuötting, who lived in Sri Lanka for many years before 1930 and was acquainted with the German Buddhist monk Nyanatilonka.
