Central and South India. 17th/20th c. a) Altar of Durga Mahishasuramardini with her right leg on the buffalo demon (Mahishasura), whose severed head lies on the pedestal, in her right hand a trident, in her left the demon's mop of hair emerging from the animal's upper body in human form. b) Durga Mahishasuramardini, eight-armed, with attributes.
