Keschan Mostachem carpet (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), central Persia, ca. 1920
"Kechan was very early a city renowned for the cultivation of mulberry trees and the spinning of silk. The fabrics and shawls of Kashan were famous during the Sefavid era (16th-18th century) and many "Polish" carpets were woven there.
From the second half of the 19th century, Kechan again played an important role in the Persian production of quality carpets, especially thanks to Mostashem, a weaver who gave his name to quality carpets. «
