The two imposing Baroque groups, distinguished by the elaborate scenic and perspective construction, rich in vivid representations, accurate architectural details and realistic representations of natural and anatomical elements, find significant comparisons with some works by the Syracuse waxworker Gaetano Giulio Zumbo (1656 - 1701), such as the deposed Christ preserved in the National Museum of Bargello in Florence or the nativity scene in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and by Cosimo Rosselli from Messina, author of the nativity scene now in the Regional Museum of Messina.
