23x18 cm The vivid scene is taken from the famous painting "The Charity of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary", painted in 1611 by the Emilian painter Bartolomeo Schedoni (Modena 1578 - Parma 1615), now kept in the Capodimonte Museum in Naples (Fig.1). It can be attributed to the famous Tuscan wax modeller Francesco Pieri (Prato 1699 - Naples 1773), whose important production includes similar works inspired by paintings. In the case of our composition, in addition to the suggestive label on the back in sepia ink (Fig. 2), Pieri's presence in Naples, where he died in 1773, would indicate his authorship of the work. In 1734, Charles V of Bourbon had transferred most of the Farnese collection, including paintings by Schedoni, who had been the court painter, to Naples.
