32x20 cm, The scene depicted is that of the circumcision of Jesus in the temple; numerous onlookers gather around the altar and Simeon holds the child, taking him from Joseph's hands. Fine modelling with particular attention to the perspective construction and the details of the architecture within which the sacred episode takes place. The frame that circumscribes the central plaque is characterised by elements representing a winged putto head between opposing leafy volutes and a grotesque mask in the lower part. On the sides winged figures with faces and busts with human features and goat legs (satyr and satiressa). The central plaque bears a date pertaining to the year of the installation of Pope Gregory IX and is made by direct casting (along its perimeter one can see the extensive imprint of the reinforcing cloth on the wax), while the subsequent frame, datable to the end of the 16th century, is obtained in this case from the mould made on an embossed plate (indirect casting).
