The hieratic Majesty, with her gaze fixed beyond the viewer and with an enigmatic, almost smiling expression, is shown seated while holding on her knee, almost in the act of showing it to the faithful, a Baby Jesus dressed in a long tunic crossed by straight geometric folds. The Virgin's veil, cloak and tunic, which is cinched at the waist by a thin belt, also descend in straight lines that end on the ground in a wavy hem cut diagonally. The stylistic models of the sculptural group refer to simplified syncretic modes of the Gothic culture of the other side of the Alps, characteristic of the regions close to the western Alps such as Piedmont or Valle d'Aosta, whose artistic sphere our work approaches.
