Rosenthal annual object 1983 in ceramics. Certificate enclosed.
The spiral is the central motif in Friedensreich Hundertwasser's artistic work. For him it is a symbol for life and death. In the bowl designed for Rosenthal this motif grows, becomes thicker and thinner. It never forms a geometrically straight line. For Hundertwasser, the straight line is godless, cowardly produced with a ruler and responsible for the decline of our rational civilization. His spiral runs "according to the law of the growth of plants". Friedensreich Hundertwasser wants to bring the unity of the creatorship of man and the creatorship of nature and its organic growth closer to the viewer. (from the certificate of the bowl)
