Nobleman accompanied by two women Pigments and gold on paper
North India, Lucknow, late 18th century Height: 20.5; Width: 15 cm
One of the young women is pouring gold coins over the young man reading a letter while the second is grasping one of the flaps of his cloak.
On the back is an inscription in devanagari. The treatment of the horses in the background, with their henna-stained legs, as well as the treatment of the sunset and the zoomorphic boats are typical of the Lucknow style of this period.
