Used to temporarily shelter the spirits of the ancestors and to remind the living of their presence, Bioma figures were the object of particular care. Stylistically attached to this group of sculptures, this work is distinguished by the dynamism of its forms and its expressive force. The figure is depicted standing, with arms raised and legs bowed, and displays stylized features. The flat face is adorned with small circular eyes drawn on either side of a mouth with a broad smile. The neck is massive, the shoulders protruding. With great expressive power, this figure is a testament to the inventiveness of the sculptors of the Gulf of Papua region.
