History:
A poorly known miniature painter, Simon Ranfer is nevertheless listed in N. Lemoine-Bouchard's book "Les peintres en miniature" of 2008, p. 433, as being active during the Directoire (two other miniatures by him are known dating from 1796 and 1797). He seems to have copied mostly works of great painters, such as Greuze, Falconet or even here Vigée-Lebrun.
