Weirotter, Franz Edmund (1730-1771). Landscape with trees and figures. Ink brush in sepia and grey, watercolour. Mounted on cardboard with ornamental margins in black and gold, signed. 17,1:22,9 cm.
Because of the French origin of this picture, it was made during his studies in Paris: 1759-63 he was a pupil and co-worker of J. G. Wille, "who took care of him like a father" (Thieme/B.), after a stay in Rome 1765 he went back to Paris, "where he lived in the house of Watelet" (Thieme/B.), from 1766/67 he was finally appointed to the engravers' academy in Vienna, where he clearly took a French experience into his art: Model Hubert Robert.
