The Multiplication of the loaves and study of a hand
Pen and brown ink, bistre wash, partially oxidized white gouache highlights and red chalk on faded blue paper.
Inscribed on the back of the mount in pen: "Giuseppe Passeri".
(Glued in full on a late 18th century mount).

Our drawing uses the same technique as a drawing by Passeri on "The Multiplication of the Loaves" in the Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf. Passeri changes the composition but keeps certain groups of people the same, notably Christ and the kneeling figure presenting him with a basket. (see : Dieter Graf, "Die Handzeichnungen des Giuseppe Passeri," Kunstmuseum Düsseldorf, 1995, Kat. No. 477, p. 137, repr. Abb. 839, p. 231).
