Portrait of the Emperor Francis II of Austria, young; he is represented holding a map of Italy, in great general's uniform, wearing the jewel of the Golden Fleece and the great cordon and plaque of the order of Maria Theresa; at the bottom, in a cartouche, the inscription: "FRANCESCO. L. IMPERATOR"; oil on canvas; lacquered and gilt frame; 113 x 74 cm. (Restorations to the canvas; cracks).
Late 18th century, early 19th century. Fairly good condition.
François II (12 February 1768 in Florence/2 March 1835 in Vienna), Emperor of the Holy German Empire, from 1792 to 1806, then became François I of Austria, following his abdication on 6 August 1806, from 1806 to 1835.
