A large barbotine planter
Of ovoid form, with polychrome decoration and pale blue background, the body applied with two handles in the form of goats' heads and linked by garlands of fruit in relief interrupted by medallions with bas-reliefs of female profiles, resting on a pedestal supported by three children leaning, circular base
Height 86 cm
(Important damages to a handle, cracks inside the base, chips)
After the model created by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887). The first model made by this artist with the same lower part but a cup applied with snakes was made for the International Exhibition in London in 1862 and is kept in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (Inv. 8111-1863).
Another similar model on its pedestal with a dark blue background is in the collections of the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.
