The Palace Gallery, or The Rival Friend. Comédie. Paris, Augustin Courbé, 1637. In-4, red morocco, double gilt fillet, spine decorated, inner lace, gilt edges (Devauchelle).
First edition.
La Galerie du Palais is Corneille's fourth comedy. Created in 1633 or 1634, the author probably decided to print it only after the success of Le Cid. The playwright ensured its success by setting it in a place known to all, the famous Galerie du Palais, where his works were sold and which was then the meeting place of the elegant world (cf. Picot, n°4).
A washed copy, with large margins (h. 222 mm).
