Jean-Léon GEROME (1824-1904) The hoop player Bronze with golden patina. Signed J.L GEROME on the front of the terrace. Ackerman, The Life and Work of Jean-Léon Gérôme, Courbevoie, ACR édition, 1986, model listed under S.21, p. 316 Jean-Léon Gérome is using the small statuette of his large plaster Tanagra in the Musée d'Orsay (inv. RF 2514, LUX 52). He modified a few details and in his own opinion considered it "better studied as far as the nude is concerned". This statuette was a great success with the public. The model was produced in several editions, in polychrome marble, polychrome plaster, porcelain and gilded bronze cast by Siot-Decauville
