After winning the Grand Prix de Rome in 1863, Charles Arthur Bourgeois, a pupil of Francisque Duret and Eugène Guillaume, obtained numerous official commissions and participated in the Salon until 1886. Although the model of this Parrot Trainer was never presented on this occasion, it fits in perfectly with the artist's production of sculptures of an exotic nature, which met with great success at the Salon.
