The Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Tours, Alfred Mame et fils, 1896-1897. 2 volumes in-folio, glazed fawn calf, decorated on the boards with a large incised decoration, the first volume bears the title in gilt ribbon in a frame of foliage, the second a large cross with fleurs de lys, the crown of thorns and nails in a border delimited by gilt fillets, spine decorated with gilt fillets, blue morocco lining decorated with a gilt foliage border, fillets and fleuron in the corners, blue reps endpapers, gilt edges, covers and spine, half blue morocco folder lined with velvet, case (Gruel). 365 compositions, mostly in colour after the four Gospels, with notes and explanatory drawings by James Tissot. Edition of 1000 copies on Marais vellum, with a suite of monochrome proofs of the engravings outside the text. Remarkable bindings by Gruel with incised decoration, of the greatest finesse, which brings them closer to certain bindings of the École de Nancy. They are signed on the back with Gruel's modelled label. A few freckles, important on the first endpapers.
