Three ornate initials from a choir book (gradual or antiphonary?)
France, Paris (?), ca. 1550.
Fragments on parchment, gothic script, music notated square on staves drawn in red ink.
Good state of preservation.
Initial "C", size of initial: 66 x 66 mm; size of fragment: 143 x 118 mm. Initial in burnished gold on a dark pink background with white highlights, border on a riddled background with pink acanthus leaves underlined with white and small discs in burnished gold.
Initial "I", size of initial: 68 x 68 mm; dimensions of fragment: 152 x 138 mm. Initial in burnished gold on a mauve background with white highlights, border on a sifted background with decoration of mauve acanthus leaves underlined with white and small discs in burnished gold.
Initial "L", size of the initial: 70 x 65 mm; dimensions of the fragment: 140 x 145 mm. Initial painted in blue with white highlights on a burnished gold background with flower in the body of the letter, border on a sifted background with flower decoration and small burnished gold discs.
