Three ornate initials from a choir book (gradual or antiphonary?) France, Paris (?), circa 1550. Fragments on parchment, gothic script, music notated square on staves drawn in red ink. Good state of preservation. Ornate initial "O", size of initial: 70 x 67 mm; size of fragment: 144 x 165 mm. Purple initial with white highlights on a burnished gold background, large flower in the body of the letter, border on a sifted background with floral decoration and small burnished gold discs. Ornate initial "I", size of initial: 70 x 67 mm; dimensions of fragment: 141 x 121 mm. Purple initial with white highlights on a burnished gold background, with two large turquoise-green flowers, border on a sifted background with blue acanthus leaves underlined by white and small burnished gold discs. Ornate initial "C", size of initial: 71 x 70 mm; dimensions of fragment: 138 x 138 mm. Initial in burnished gold on a pink background with white decoration, large flower in the body of the letter, border on a riddled background with decoration of purple and pale mauve acanthus leaves underlined with white and small discs in burnished gold.
