Pillar of tashi gomang (bkhra shis sgo mang) Tibet, Densatil monastery circa 1431-32 Gilded copper alloy. H. 26.5 cm Two deities resting on a blossoming lotus emerging from a vase of immortality liquor form the axis of the pillar and form caryatids. Old accidents visible, turquoise inclusions. On each of the tashi gomang, levels 2 to 5 were connected by pillars of this type. Most likely to have come from the synthesis of technical and stylistic elements, and from the current state of proposal of the chronology of the monuments of the Densatil monastery, the seventh tashi gomang erected in 1431-1432 by bsod nams rgyal mtshan dpal bzang po (1386-1434), the fourteenth abbot of the monastery, in honour of his predecessor bsod nams bzang po (1380-1417), the thirteenth abbot of Densatil, from 1408 to 1417. For an object of the same typology, see J-L Estournel "About the 18 stupas and other treasures once at the Densatil monastery." 2020 http://asianart.com/articles/densatil/index.html fig. 296.
