SMALL HENRY II CABINET WITH BIRD HANGERS FRANCE, 16th CENTURY Walnut wood H. 158 cm, W. 117 cm, D. 53 cm Good condition A rare piece of furniture because of its small size, our cabinet is composed of two superimposed recessed bodies opening on the front with four leaves and two drawers on the belt. Its architectural rigor and the purity of its lines place it at the beginning of the reign of Henri II (1547 - 1559). It is at this time that the furniture adopts a rigorous architecture and displays a decoration of a great sobriety with as characteristics in particular of the pennes of birds framing the panels. The huchiers become architects, the search for the harmony is in the center of their creations. From this attention to proportions, refined furniture with pure lines is born. Our cabinet rises on a lightly moulded base on which the uprights decorated with leaves frame the panels, which are embellished in moulded frames, assembled with a mitre joint. They are centered on a flower, in a frame of bird pennants and small roses. The two drawers are decorated with feathers and plants.
