HENRI II TABLE, DITE EN CROIX DE LORRAINE VAL-DE-LOIRE, SECOND HALF OF THE 15th CENTURY blond walnut
H. 80,5 cm, W. open 260 cm / closed 141,5 cm, D. 78 cm
very good state of conservation
This elegant architectural table with a double crossbar is characteristic of the tables from the time of Henri II called "en croix de Lorraine". The recessed belt receives the table top with its two lateral extensions, supported in open position by external cleats. It rests on seven legs with curved shafts. The pendentives that decorate the corners without support are found in a table from the former Jacqueline Boccador collection (fig. 1). The vertical momentum is accentuated here by the high ball-shaped legs that raise a widely overhanging strut, with two scoops freed by a groove. The depth of the mouldings on the base contrasts with the sobriety of the smooth legs.
Provenance
Collection of the Duke of C.
Certificate of Mrs Jacqueline Boccador dated May 5, 2010 : "This table can be dated to the second half of the 16th century and comes from the Loire Valley. [...] This table is in excellent condition".
