MILLEFLOWERS IN THE VILLAINS WORKSHOPS OF THE MARKET EARLY 15th CENTURY
Inscription: Chescum me menasse Aussy je defend
H. 160 x L. 120 cm
Exceptional condition
This pleasant genre scene is presented below an inscribed banner, on a background of millefleurs composed of a sowing of flowers with bells and very stylized bellflowers, arranged in a repetitive pattern. In the upper register, a church recognizable by the transept that crosses the nave. In the lower register, two villains with sticks are violently arguing. Seen from the front, the one dressed in yellow and a blue mantle has raised his hand against his acolyte. Under the effect of the blow, the other turned his head and his hat fell on his eyes. The legend sheds light on this gesture. The first retorted to the threat of the second: "Chescum me menasse, aussy je defend".
