BUST OF A YOUNG WOMAN EGYPT, ROMANIC ERA, 4th CENTURY marble h. 41.5 cm, w. 25 cm, d. 15 cm
This bust of a woman shows a young patrician woman. Two large eyes illuminate her round face, characterized by a snub nose, fleshy lips and a strong chin. Her youthful figure is reminiscent of certain funerary portraits, such as the one painted on a shroud discovered at Antinous and now preserved in the Louvre.
The neatness of our sculpture, dressed in a dress finely belted under the chest and with braids rolled up into a tight bun, follows the codes of fashion in Rome.
