Large MIRROR in a gilded wooden frame, the pediment added, representing the episode where Mercury gives the golden apple to Paris who must give it to the one, between Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, that he considers the most beautiful... The frame richly carved with garlands of intertwined flowers and a frieze of small fleurons. Italy, probably Rome, 18th century Height 225 cm Width 133 cm (restorations, reinforcements, added falls) NB: This exuberance of the sculpture is characteristic of the Italian Baroque period which often favoured references to Greek mythology in the sculpted decoration of consoles and mirrors, as in the case of this mirror "The Judgement of Paris".
