ALTAROLO IN OSSO DI BALENA Santo Domingo, sec XV Raro vassoio rituale Cemi realizzato interamente in osso, probabilmente vertebra di balena. AN PORTABLE ALTAR IN WHALE BONE Santo Domingo, 15th century A rare ritual Cemi tray realized entirely in bone, probably whale vertebra. The form is vaguely of an elongated heart shape, with the upper surface slightly concave resing at the back on two muscular zoomorphic legs whilst at the front on a simple truncated cone-shaped foot. Between the aggressively protruding shoulder blades the head is revealed with typical features. The surface, rough for some time now, reveals a complex geometric carving that covers it entirely. A very fine example of ritual manufacture in a fair state of conservation. L. 48 cm.
