Versailles, Blaizot, an huitième [1800].
In-12 : paperback, modern marbled paper cover, in red morocco case.
First edition : it is rare.
Warning printed opposite the title : "This Drama is only the extract of one of the twelve Tragic News which are going to appear incessantly in four Volumes, under the title Of the Crimes of Love, or the Delirium of Passions, Work of the same Author." "In 1790, shortly after his release from prison, Sade experimented with two literary genres and two tones: he gave to print a novel scandalous for its erotic details, Justine, and had a more discreet drama, Oxtiern, performed. Ten years later, he did it again with La Nouvelle Justine published in parallel to Oxtiern and the Crimes of Love" (Michel Delon).
A fine copy.
It had been bound (perhaps in a collection); unbound and washed, it has been covered with a modern marbled paper cover in the 18th-century style.
From the Francis Kettaneh library, with bookplate.
