La Relygieuse [Saint Gertrude]. No place or date [Paris, 1895].
Woodcut printed on straw paper with large margins (364 x 265 mm), captioned and signed by Alfred Jarry.
Remarkable woodcut by Alfred Jarry: separate print with large margins on strong straw-coloured wove paper, captioned and signed by Alfred Jarry.
The autograph caption reads: "Ce est [?] la Relygieuse." Signed lower right Alfred Jarry. The ink has faded.
The xylograph appeared in L'Ymagier nº 4 under the title: Sainte Gertrude. The wood "was carved from a really rough wood. [...] The subject may have been inspired by litanies to Saint Gertrude, written by Gourmont in issue 3" ( Jarry en ymages, 2011, p. 152).
