The first plate bears the notation in red ink: "Ibels is forbidden [sic] for publication in L'Assiette au beurre. Chief Editor and Administration", followed by an illegible signature and the date of July 21, 1906. Then 2 stamps: "Forbidden" [Decidedly!]; stamps that we find twice on each of the plates. It would seem that the whole thing was made for a hunter who was not very fond of the talent of the illustrators of L'Assiette au beurre. Curiosity in the quest for the Curiosa...
