Portrait of the author printed in colour by Hérold and numerous drawings in black in the text by Steinlen, etc. Aristide Bruant is not a chansonnier; he is a poet and a great poet. The attempts of his imitators to equal him have been in vain. Bruant's slang work will remain because it is him, because he imitates no one (Yve-Plessis).
