BRUANT (Aristide de). Songs and monologues. Paris, H. Geffroy, s.d. [c. 1890]. Large in-8, half red cloth, smooth spine decorated with gilded fillets, untrimmed (period binding). Portrait of the author printed in colour by Hérold and numerous drawings in black in the text by Steinlen, etc. Aristide Bruant is not a chansonnier; he is a poet and a great poet. The attempts of his imitators to equal him have been in vain. Bruant's slang work will remain because it is him, because he imitates no one (Yve-Plessis). A handwritten table page at the end of the volume. Tear without missing a leaf. Small rubs to the binding.
