Alec Wildenstein, Odilon Redon - Catalogue raisonné de l'oeuvre peint et dessiné, Études et grandes décorations-supplément, Volume IV, La Bibliothèque des Arts, Paris, 1998, described and reproduced on pages 248 & 249 under the n° 2581
About this charcoal, the catalogue raisonné indicates: Only known example where this "Cellular face" appears in negative or in Chinese shadow, springing from a luminous crescent moon. To be compared with the album lithograph "Dans le rêve", "Éclosion" (M27), of which this drawing is probably contemporary (1879), and with the lithograph M-126 "Cellule auriculaire" of 1894.
