Alchemy - LIMOJON de SAINT DIDIER. Letter of a philosopher on the secret of the Great Work. Written about the Instructions that Aristaeus left to his Son, concerning the Philosophical Magisterium. The Name of the Author is in Latin in this Anagram; Dives Sicut Ardens, S. Paris, d'Houry, 1688. In-16 of 61 pp. 9-[1] pp. (The Light of the Mercury extracted from Raymond Lulle). Tan calf, smooth spine decorated, gilt title, gilt fillet and cold roulette framing the boards (early 19th c. binding). Covers, spines and corners worn. This small and rare collection, whose contents relate to the search for the Great Work, was composed by a skilled diplomat and alchemist. It is divided into three parts: the first is occupied by the Letter of a Philosopher "about the Instructions that Aristaeus left to his Son, concerning the Philosophical Magistery". The second gives the Latin text and the French translation of Aristaeus' instructions. The third contains "The Light of the Mercury extracted from Raymond Lulle". Second edition after the original of 1686. (Caillet 6695.) Interleaved copy with handwritten notes by the chemist Jean-Baptiste DUMAS (1800-1884), giving another version of the text often more complete. With his ex-libris stamp on the title.
