Alchemy - CASTAIGNE (Gabriel de). The Great Miracle of metallic nature, that by imitating it without Sophistication all the imperfect metals, will become fine Gold, & the incurable diseases will be cured. [presented as the Work of Jean Saunier, pupil of Artephius, composed
7 May 1412], brought to light by the Reverend Father de Castaigne. Paris, Jean d'Houry, 1660.
In-12 of 19-[1]-93-[1bl.]-75 pp. Missing the last 3 pages. P. 76 (end of text) is handwritten. Marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, small gilt stars on the corners of the boards (period binding). Rubbed and worn, lower cover worn, corners worn. Modern label stuck on the front cover. A few small holes and marginal wormholes (some restored).
Second edition taken from the Œuvres de Castaigne published by d'Houry in 1661, with a separate title. (Caillet 2061.)
