BUTHAUD René (Saintes 1886 - Bordeaux 1986)
Lake landscape with phoenix, parrot and hummingbird
Large decorative panel in thick eglomised glass fixed under glass consisting of four rectangular panels decorated with yellow, green and grey gold leaf
Signed R. Buthaud lower right on one panel
Panels : 77,5 x 52,6 cm each
(some scratches and missing paint layer - the four panels bevelled at the corner of the central axis)
Original two-compartment wooden frame with gilt painted metal rod mount
(oxidation and paint chips)
Total size: 156,4 x 105,4 cm
Provenance: Collection of Mr. Henri D. who ran an electrical, locksmith and ironwork workshop in Bordeaux in the first part of the 20th century. The decorative panel was kept in the workshop and then in a family property until today.
René Buthaud used the eglomerate glass technique around 1930. It was not until 1933 that he produced the first large panel. This realization required a very great control, the process prohibiting any repentance.
