The legend on the reverse indicates Divi M[arci] Pii F[ilius], son of the Divine Marcus Aurelius, with as type, Mars and Victory: Septimius Severus has just defeated Pescennius in the Middle East and has been acclaimed Augustus by his troops, he recalls here his legitimacy and indicates the continuity of his reign with that of the Antonines
