The sculpture we are presenting, Totem of Acrobats, 1987, is typical of this period in Haring's career. As his fame continued to grow, he was called upon for monumental projects, and he also turned his art into sculptures, some of which were several metres high and weighed almost a ton. On this piece, the characteristic features of his work can be found: line, colour and silhouette. First of all, the art of the line that gives volume and presence to a work that remains resolutely flat, as if drawn on a wall, an exercise dear to Haring's heart. Then comes his arrangement of simple and full colors, here green, red and yellow, which detach the whole from any background. Finally, we find the recognizable silhouettes that have played such a big role in Haring's success.
