LARGE SECRETARY of pyramidal shape in mahogany and mahogany veneer, it presents a leaf punctuated by two uprights in blackened wood decorated with women wearing braids and a diadem at the top surmounted by a triangular pediment, it opens to a compensated flap revealing a caier and nine drawers in caramel birch and amaranth veneer in filleted frames and two large drawers at the bottom part. It rests on a plinth. Rich decoration of chiselled bronze such as: victories supporting a crown of forget-me-nots, entries of locks with children fanning a brazier, palmettes, volutes, the goddess Diana arming her bow in appliques. Bidermeier period (veneer accidents, small restorations) H: 192 - W: 113 - D: 48 cm Provenance: Collection Jean LEFEVRE (1908- 1965), architect. The Biedermeier style began in Austria and Germany around 1814 and ended in 1848. It is tempting to believe that Biedermeier corresponds to the name of a cabinetmaker, but it is a mythical character, embodying the good German bourgeois of the beginning of the 19th century. Inspired by neoclassicism, this style differs from the rigor of the Empire style by its originality of decoration and the use of different types of wood.
